  • Acknowledgement of Country

Inspired by the depth and meaningfulness of traditional Acknowledgements of Country, NIDALA blends music, story, mindfulness and speech to led groups through this important cultural protocol in a way that maintains it’s cultural integrity and feels valuable for all in the room.

In these 8-12 minute performances, NIDALA pays respect to Traditional Owners, and calls all in the room to acknowledge their own ancestry and all that has allowed them to arrive that day. When done online, NIDALA walks the participants through a simultaneous Acknowledgement for the Country on which they are dialling in from.

This offering attempts to break down the bureaucratisation and box ticking of what Acknowledgements have become while trying to exist in this society, and instead create a moment of connection, respect and tradition for all to share in.

Please note that a Welcome to Country performed by a local traditional owner should always be prioritised over an Acknowledgement to Country by someone outside of that group. If you have any doubts please feel free to reach out, any questions will be welcomed with openness and warmth.

  • Workshop.

Through stories, songs and explanation Nidala guides your group through the themes of custodianship, belonging to Country and shared responsibility.

Grounded in the teaching of her people, the Djugun ard Jabirr-Jabirr people of the West Kimberley, as well as her extensive experience in the sustainability and activism space, Nidala challenges the participants to inquire into their own lineage and interdependence with the Country on which they live.

The underpinning ethos of these workshops is that everyone belongs to the land on which they are living - and through following the guidance and leadership of Indigenous wisdom, whilst also working through the disconnection and guilt - everyone can find their own custodianship of this Country.

During these workshops you can expect to learn how to perform an Acknowledgement of Country in a way that is culturally appropriate and valuable for all those in the room (but not a Welcome of Country .. that is only for Traditional owners); to explore ideas of solidarity, ally-ship, and where you voice is needed; and be led through activities to deepen your connection to Country in a way that it has been done on this continent for millennia.
